Position Summary:
The Director of Marketing and Communications at Seattle Children’s Theatre (SCT) leads Marketing, Sales, and Communications, supporting public-facing initiatives including programming, education, fundraising, and events. This role is responsible for driving earned revenue with a strong emphasis on direct-to-consumer (DTC) ticket sales, and collaborates closely across other department to support revenue growth in Education, Engagement, and Development. The Director is also accountable for all public relations strategies, advertising, and brand-building activities.
The Director of Marketing, Sales and Communications directly supervises the Associate Director of Sales, the Digital Marketing Manager, and the Creative Director, with a dotted-line relationship to the Experience & Brand Manager and Experience Coordinator. In partnership with the Experience Department, this position supports the SCT Board Audience Development Committee
As a member of SCT’s leadership team, the Director contributes to organization-wide activities, including all-staff meetings, leading and participating in antiracism efforts, engaging with the board of trustees, and fostering a healthy organizational culture.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Marketing & Sales
- Create annual marketing plans encompassing all print and digital marketing efforts, including paid digital advertising, direct mail, email, and publications for the mainstage season.
- Develop and manage marketing and education marketing budgets, covering all marketing and advertising activities.
- Lead in the development and execution of annual subscription, single ticket, and school sales programs to achieve earned revenue and attendance goals.
- Design and execute strategies to maximize DTC subscription and single-ticket sales, optimizing audience retention and acquisition.
Communications& Brand
- Develop and oversee SCT’s communications strategy to ensure a consistent and unified voice in all external communications, building institutional goodwill and financial support from the public, media, industry partners, funders, and other stakeholders.
- Enhance SCT’s visibility in the community through robust public relations activities and positive positioning.
- Work with external partners to develop a cohesive and comprehensive brand positioning strategy.
- Proactively seek public relations opportunities beyond securing show-specific reviews.
Team Leadership
- Hire, inspire, train, and develop direct reports and the marketing team.
- Foster a collaborative team environment within the Sales & Marketing department and across the organization.
- Manage relationships with key third-party vendors such as web developers, advertising vendors, and other external stakeholders.
- Provide excellent project management support to the marketing team and other departments.
- Develop, manage, and reconcile the annual marketing plan, sales and revenue goals, and department budget.
Organizational Collaboration
- Ensure cross-department alignment with Development, Education, and Experience, so that all marketing efforts support both earned and contributed revenue goals.
- Work in close partnership with the Development team to support contributed revenue activity including campaigns, events and donor materials
- Collaborate with the Education team to design and execute marketing strategies for Educational programs. Oversee the Education Marketing spend
- Be a thought partner to the Experience Department in rolling out patron-facing events and activations that enhance the overall SCT experience.
- Participate actively in the season planning process.
- Oversee all aspects of budget planning and forecasting to provide SCT leadership with the data needed for informed business decisions.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- A deep commitment to the mission of Seattle Children’s Theatre
- Flexibility, vision, energy, collaboration, and patience are essential.
- Five or more years of experience in a senior marketing role.
- Proven track record of growing DTC ticket sales and earned revenue in a performing arts or live events setting.
- Experience collaborating with fundraising and education teams to drive contributed and earned revenue is a plus.
- Familiarity with youth, family, and/or educator-serving organizations is a plus.
- Experience managing budgets, including revenue and expense budgets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM or constituent databases (Tessitura strongly preferred).
- Strong administrative skills, including managing complex projects.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate large amounts of information accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities, and move multiple projects forward.
- Ability to work some nights, weekends, and holidays.
